I frequently hear students and pastors express great fear regarding the survival of the church. Each time, I try to point out the deep theological flaw in such worried thinking. The church is not in any jeopardy of disappearing from the earth because its existence is not up to us but up to the Holy Spirit who maintains the Body of Christ in the world until the end. We need to begin from this place of confidence in the faithfulness of God instead of the fear that we might fail. The church continues, not because of how hard we work, but because God continues to gift us with Divine Presence.
