lingering in the doorway

The mission of God is to draw all of us into communion with God and with each other, to reconcile us to God, to each other, and to ourselves. These happen together or not at all and they are a life long process. Salvation marks the beginning of our participation with that process but it does not mark the beginning of God’s activity in that process. And it by no means marks our completion of that process. We have become so focused on winning decisions for Christ that we have neglected to move people beyond the front door. There is a deep and rich life of faith to enjoy and the Spirit empowers our growth into all that God has for us. Which always looks like closer intimacy with God, with each other, and with our truest selves. This is what Paul means by,

I am confident that God, who began the good work among you, will go on perfecting it until the Day of Jesus Christ. (Phil. 1.6)

Don’t just linger in the doorway. Let’s move on into the house and enjoy rest, fellowship, nourishment, comfort, and all the other benefits this life together brings.
